Toledo is an ancient capital of Spain, it is located on the South-West of Madrid on the river Tagus. The Alcazar castle, the last main fortification of the city, is located high on a hill and stands out among other buildings. The castle was reconstructed many times and served as the residence of the monarchs, also here lived the widows and ex-wives of heads of state. Today in the castle Alcazar is located a military Museum, where everyone can see exhibits on the civil war in Spain. Of course, are worthy of the attention the Museum-hospital of Santa Cruz, the convent of San Juan, the Church of St. Thomas, the House-Museum of El Greco with a large collection of paintings by the famous painter, the ancient palaces in the mudéjar style, the synagogue of Santa Maria La Blanca, which is one of the oldest in Europe. The Church of Santo Tomé, which houses one of the major works by El Greco – famous painting “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz” and attracts to Toledo many art lovers from all over the world.
