Nazaré is a town on the Atlantic coast, famous for its fish market with a huge variety of seafood. One of the main attractions of this small town is the Chapel of Memory (Capela da Memória) built in honor of the memory of the miraculous rescue of life of the Portuguese king in the XII century.
Next we will drive to Alcobaça and visit the famous Benedictine monastery of Alcobaça, that was built in 1153 by the first Portuguese king. The monastery is recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO and is the first Portuguese building that was built in the Gothic style. In Batalha You will see the magnificent Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitoria, the construction of which began in 1385 during the reign of king João I, in token of his gratitude to the virgin Mary for the victory in the battle. The construction continued by the six subsequent kings. Here are buried the remains of the famous Portuguese prince Henry the Navigator.
