Lagos is an ancient port city that for two centuries was the capital of the Algarve. Today it is a popular resort in the South of Portugal and one of the most visited cities in this area. It is famous for its clean and tidy beaches, variety of hotels and restaurants, as well as a large number of historical monuments. Lagos never sleeps, during the beach season, the night parties and entertainment are particularly popular.

The boat trip on the sea grottoes and caves, or kayak where you can swim in secluded corners which are inaccessible for boats, all this will give You the opportunity to fully enjoy the picturesque beauty of these places. The natural attractions in Lagos, has survived almost intact: the Golden coast grottos (Grutas da Costa d’Ouro), the Alvor Lagoon (Laguna de Alvor), the Divine Area (Ponta da Piedade) – these places admire with the amazing cliffs, mysterious caves, azure turquoise waters that are enveloping the shore. The major historical sights include the Castle of Lagos, that was built around VIII century, the convent of the Carmelites (Convento de Nossa Senhora do Carmo), the Church of St. Sebastian (Igreja de São Sebastião), which is considered the most ancient and beautiful in the city. It is located on a hilltop, overlooking the magnificent view of the bay. The Fort of Cape Bandeira (Forte da Ponta da Bandeira) is a fortress built in the late XVII century in order to protect the city from pirates. The Fort is situated outside the city walls, it is a square with watchtowers at the corners. Inside the fortress is the chapel of St. Barbara, and up there is the platform with the cannons on which you can climb and look into the watchtower.
